- (8/26/08) Oklahoma musicians are all over the new Little Feat disc, Join the Band (429 Records).Vince Gill teams with Sonny Landreth on "Dixie Chicken," Brooks and Dunn weigh in with "Willin'", and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" gets a new spin on the album of redone Little Feat faves.
- (8/15/08) Award-winning songwriter, Darrell Scott (Garth Brooks, Dixie Chicks, Faith Hill), releases a collection of songs that inspired him to become a songwriter. Included with covers by Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, and Guy Clark, Oklahoma's own Hoyt Axton is featured by Scott who performs "The Devil" from Hoyt's 1976 album, Fearless (A&M).
- (8/3/08) Shawnee-based folksinger, Samantha Crain, along with her band, The Midnight Shivers, are really starting to garner a lot of attention in the roots-rock world. About to embark on a nationwide tour in support of her new EP, Confiscation, Crain is turning heads in both critical and industry circles who hear and see her as an important force brewing.
- (7/21/09) Want the real honky tonk? Check out Austin's Heybale!, led by an Oklahoma City dude, Gary Claxton, on vocals and rhythm guitar. According to a press release, Claxton has been singing in clubs around California, Nashville, and Texas for the past twenty years. His band is made up of some extremely notable players, such as pianist Earl Poole Ball (Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Gram Parsons, and Oklahoman Stoney Edwards), and Red Volkaert who was Merle Haggard's featured guitarist in the 1990s, and has been recognized both critically and by the industry for his Telecaster mastery. You know you want to hear it!
